Keynote Speech: Dr. Wendy Dean - If I betray these words

Dr. Dean of Moral Injury in Healthcare and author of "If I Betray These Words: Moral Injury And Why It's So Hard For Clinicians to Put Patients First" speaks to "why we do it." Physicians and healthcare workers experience moral injury when they are forced to betray their deeply held moral beliefs on a repeated basis. This description and framing is preferred to "burnout," which implies a failure of the physician or healthcare worker, rather than the inevitable result of a morally injurious system where physicians and clinicians are set up for failure.

Ming Lin MD: "My Silence is Not For Sale"

Dr. Ming Lin is an emergency physician who lost his job after speaking out for the safety of nurses and staff during the early days of COVID19 in Washington State. As a physician working for over a decade at his hospital Peacehealth, he was removed from the schedule without any due process. Dr. Lin now self-funds his wrongful termination lawsuit against two corporate behemoths: TeamHealth and Peacehealth. Dr. Lin's lawsuit is ongoing - he fights for all physicians to set precedent, seeking a judgement.
